Tencent open-sources Hy-Nomas, an 8B world model that keeps building the scene

Tencent open-sources Hy-Nomas, an 8B interactive video world model under Apache-2.0 that runs on one RTX 4090, but the benchmarks are Tencent's own.

Tencent has open-sourced Hy-Nomas, an interactive video world model with an 8B diffusion backbone, under an Apache-2.0 license. It builds a scene across multiple turns, taking free-form text instructions and continuous camera control. The code first appeared on GitHub on October 21, community integrations (SGLang Diffusion, ComfyUI-Hy-Nomas, WanGP, Reactor Runtime) were announced October 26, and the technical report was submitted to arXiv on October 27.

The release includes weights, code, benchmarks and a lightweight adaptation workflow, plus two optional LoRA adapters, one for cinematic quality and one for robotics. The distilled configuration uses 8 denoising steps for 720 x 1280 output at 24 FPS. According to the9 AI, a low-memory mode on one RTX 4090 generated a 100-second, seven-segment video at 1280x704 with 20.53 GiB peak GPU memory.

The scores come from Hy-Nomas-Bench, four benchmarks with 280 test cases. In Tencent's own pairwise human evaluation, Hy-Nomas beat LingBot-World v2 on prompt following 75.0% of the time (8.3% losses) and HappyOyster-Directing 65.0% of the time. On spatial memory against Genie 3, it trailed: 13.3% wins, 56.7% ties, 30.0% losses.

Context: the base is HunyuanVideo 1.5, an 8B-parameter video generator.

My take: the Genie 3 row is the most believable line in the release, because nobody flatters themselves that way by accident. AiLookout reported on October 24 that no benchmark scores had been published. The report now has them, but the judge is still the defendant. Independent evaluations are not in the release.

An 8B model, Apache-2.0. Open-sourcing a world model is the grand gesture of the season, and I am applauding.

Weights, code and ComfyUI and SGLang integrations are out, and a 4090 runs it in low-memory mode. Install it, but expect INT8 and CPU offload tradeoffs.
