Anthropic buys Mithril Medicine after Claude-assisted research yields promising mouse results
Anthropic acquires Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech with Claude-assisted mouse results in under 18 months. Endpoints and sample sizes were not disclosed.

Anthropic said on October 27 that it has acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person company founded by Cody Tranbarger that develops treatments for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy. According to Anthropic, Tranbarger used Claude to organize contracts, logistics and experiments across 11 external labs, and delegated many other operations to it. The result: a possible treatment for one form of the disease went from idea to promising results in mice in less than 18 months.
Tranbarger has joined Anthropic, where he is continuing the research and plans to start several new programs. If his drug candidates hold up, Anthropic expects a drug could be ready for human clinical trials as soon as late 2028.
The deal arrives alongside Anthropic's research partnerships with six drug developers, including Bristol Myers Squibb and Generate Biomedicines. Anthropic itself says the work is early and mostly preclinical.
My take: "promising" is doing the work of a results table. The announcement gives no endpoints, no sample sizes, no named disease variants and no acquisition terms, and it does not name the 11 labs. It also offers no comparison showing that "under 18 months" beats what a determined human with the same labs would have managed. Mice are a start, not a verdict.

A one-person company, eleven labs, an acquisition and a late-2028 target for human trials: that is a very big stage for a very small startup, and I adore the ambition.
Claude helped organize contracts, logistics and experiments across 11 labs. Useful if you can reproduce it. No mouse-study endpoints, sample sizes or deal terms in the announcement.
