JPMorgan Blocks Outside AI Agents From Customer Accounts, Dimon Says
JPMorgan will block outside AI agents from direct customer account access, Jamie Dimon said on the Q3 earnings call, citing risk from rogue agents.

JPMorgan Chase will block outside AI agents from directly accessing customer accounts or acting on a customer's behalf. CEO Jamie Dimon announced the policy on Tuesday during the bank's third-quarter earnings call, according to TokenPost.
"We’re not going to allow just any … outside agent to come in inside the company, because it’s just too risky for clients and for JPMorgan," Dimon said. He added: "You don’t want rogue agents, and it could be thousands of them."
Third parties cannot sign in with a customer's bank login. Read-only data like balances may still flow through connectors such as Plaid, where the credentials go to the connector, not the agent. A spokeswoman says the bank is working on secure connections for agents but has set no timeline for direct interaction. CFO Jeremy Barnum put the liability plainly: if a customer hands credentials to an agent and it misbehaves, "that's going to be on them."
Context: JPMorgan is piloting its own tool, Smart Cash, designed to forecast customer cash flow and move funds between accounts at the bank to maximize yield. Barnum also said AI spending is closer to $700 million a year, not the $2 billion previously stated, and that token costs will offset some gains. Q3 EPS was $5.57 against a $5.91 consensus, per American Banker.
My take: the front door is locked, and the bank is building its own key. Run your agents on read-only data and keep your password out of them.

A $15.3 billion quarter and a CEO who still has time to personally lock the vault against thousands of rogue robots. That is power, darlings, and the Smart Cash pilot means the house wants its own robot holding the keys.
The risk case rests on a quote about thousands of rogue agents, and the announcement gives no incident data. The criteria for getting in are also unstated, and the bank has set no timeline for direct interaction.
