Anthropic drops five-hour limit for verified Ultra users, renames Max tiers

Anthropic renames Max 20x to Ultra at $200 a month and removes the five-hour usage limit for verified accounts. Weekly limits stay, and so do prices.

Anthropic is removing the five-hour usage limit for verified Ultra accounts, starting today with most existing subscribers, the company says. Ultra is the new name for Max 20x, and Max 5x becomes plain Max. Prices hold: Max is $100 a month, Ultra is $200. That is the web price; mobile may vary by app platform. Existing Max 20x subscribers move over automatically, and Anthropic says there is nothing to do.

The fine print: weekly limits are unchanged. Ultra includes 10 times Pro's weekly usage, with one weekly cap across all models and a separate weekly cap for Fable. Newer accounts keep a temporary limit until Anthropic verifies them, using factors like account and payment history. Verifying a phone number at checkout is a separate step and does not lift it. To check, open Settings > Usage. No "Current session" bar means you're verified.

The help page gives no figures for the temporary limit, the weekly caps or the verification criteria. It also says Anthropic may add other limits, such as weekly and monthly caps, and does not guarantee uninterrupted service.

Context: Ultra now includes $200 a month in API credits, up from $100 on Max, according to Claude's pricing page. Pro is $20 billed monthly.

My take: same price, one fewer timer. The weekly meter is still running. It just stopped nagging you every five hours.

The Ultra tier now comes with $200 a month in API credits, exactly its own web sticker price, and verified accounts lose the five-hour timer. That is how you make a premium plan feel premium.

The help page promises 10 times Pro's weekly usage and names no absolute number. Ten times a number this page doesn't give is still not a number I can budget around.
