Google brings ads to AI Mode in international markets as core ad growth slows

Google is bringing ads to AI Mode in international markets as Alphabet reports slower core ad growth. Advertisers get no opt-out or separate reporting.

Google is bringing ads to AI Mode, its conversational search feature, in international markets, according to TechCrunch and Crypto Briefing. The announcement came alongside Alphabet's third-quarter earnings, where revenue grew 25% year over year to $127.6 billion. TechCrunch frames the rollout against slowing growth in Google's core ad business. The coverage gives no growth figure for that business and no list of markets in the first wave.

The mechanics are plain. AI Mode lets users type longer queries and get synthesized answers instead of a list of blue links. Ads there come through existing campaign types: Performance Max, Shopping, and broad-match or AI Max Search campaigns. Crypto Briefing reports Google offers no dedicated placement controls, no separate reporting and no opt-out. If a campaign qualifies, it is automatically eligible. Newer ad formats built with Gemini are still in testing.

Context: Google expanded AI Mode on October 7, 2025 to more than 40 new countries and territories, past 200 markets and 35 languages. This month it confirmed ad tests for signed-in Personal Intelligence users, a reversal of March 2026 expectations that those experiences would stay ad-free. Google says user data stays private and advertisers get no access to personal content.

My take: the install is automatic and the uninstall does not exist. Check your campaign settings before the invoice does it for you.

Revenue up 25% to $127.6 billion, and the answer box now takes sponsors across borders. Magnificent scale, and the checkout lane is wide open.

No separate reporting means advertisers cannot see what AI Mode ads do on their own. A measurement section with nothing to measure.
