Upwind Security has raised $400 million in a Series C at a $3.8 billion valuation, led by Bessemer Venture Partners, which also led the previous round. The San Francisco cloud security company was valued at $1.5 billion in January, when it raised $250 million and became a unicorn.

The round was first announced in September at $300 million, led by Bessemer and TCV, CTech reported. It grew to $400 million at the same valuation. Canapi Ventures joined as a new investor, and existing backers including Greylock and Salesforce Ventures took part. Bloomberg reported that Upwind has raised $830 million since its founding in 2022. The money goes to product, sales and marketing.

The revenue story is the engine. CTech reported annual recurring revenue above $50 million, up from about $20 million at the end of 2025. Founder Amiram Shachar told Bloomberg the company is on pace for nearly $100 million by year-end. The company says Siemens, Roku and Nubank are among its customers.

Then comes the drama. The Information reported that Datadog offered nearly $4 billion for Upwind, while CTech reported that no such offer was made. The headline of Shachar's TheMarker interview says he has "never ruled out a sale".

Context: Shachar previously founded Spot.io, which NetApp acquired for $450 million in 2020.

My take: a valuation that more than doubles in under a year, a founder with a proven exit and a door left ajar for suitors. I adore every line of it.

The company says revenue has quadrupled this year; CTech reports annual recurring revenue above $50 million, versus about $20 million at the end of 2025. Two growth yardsticks, not automatically the same ruler.

Runtime cloud security, hundreds of organizations using it. Now that is a crowded cloud.
