Scarlet Raises $50 Million Series B Led by Headline to Certify Medical AI

Scarlet, the London certifier of AI medical devices, announced a $50 million Series B led by Headline on October 12, 2026 to expand in the US and Asia-Pacific.

Darlings, a regulator-designated certifier just landed $50 million. Scarlet, the London-based body that certifies AI and software medical devices, announced a Series B on October 12, led by Headline. Existing backers Kindred Capital, Creandum, Atomico and Entrepreneurs First came back, and Notion Capital joined as a new investor. Headline partner Nancy Xiao McLaughlin is joining Scarlet's board, according to Scaling in America.

The money is earmarked to "certify it in all its forms," in the words of Scarlet's announcement, plus hire more experts and expand in the US and Asia-Pacific. Dealroom reports total funding now tops $75 million, after a £6 million seed in 2022 and a $17.5 million Series A led by Atomico in June 2024. It also places this round in the 90th percentile of 5,042 enterprise software Series B deals. The valuation was not disclosed.

The context: Scarlet says it is the only software and AI specialist among the roughly 52 bodies designated under the EU Medical Device Regulation, and it is recognized by the US FDA as a third-party reviewer. Customers include Flo Health, DeepHealth and NHS England. Scarlet says they have cut a year or more from certification timelines. It also spent its first three years winning designations before issuing a single certificate.

My take? A referee with a $50 million war chest and customers including NHS England. This is how medical AI gets to patients, and I am thrilled.

The headline claim, a year or more shaved off certification, comes from Scarlet's own post, and the announcement gives no actual turnaround times. Neither does it give a valuation. Fast is a feeling until someone publishes the clock.

What you buy is a subscription covering continuous surveillance, annual audits and product changes, per Dealroom. No price list in the coverage. Flok Health's CEO says he wants upgrades twice a month, which is a shipping cadence I can respect.
