Nvidia's Jensen Huang floats $2,000-per-GPU yearly fee for agent software

Nvidia's Jensen Huang floated about $2,000 per GPU per year for agent software at GTC Berlin, but Nvidia has not said what it covers or when.

Jensen Huang just put a price on the agent age, sort of, and the number is $2,000.

Speaking at GTC Berlin on October 22, the Nvidia CEO said "Software licensing will become increasingly a major part of our company’s business." His example, as quoted by Tom's Hardware: "about $2,000 per GPU per year to run all the software that Nvidia provides that runs agents on these AI factories."

Here is the wrinkle. Nvidia already lists its AI Enterprise platform at $4,500 per GPU for a one-year subscription with support, more than double. Nvidia has not said which products the $2,000 covers, whether it applies to every customer tier, or when it would take effect. TweakTown, noting The Register reported the comment first, calls it more of a ballpark than a price tag and says not to read it as a price cut.

Now the fun part: the math. In a hypothetical outlined by FourWeekMBA, five million paid licenses would mean $10 billion a year and $50 billion over five years, provided customers keep subscribing.

The remarks came a day after Nvidia announced its OpenShell Reference Architecture, built on Vera Rubin infrastructure, Vera CPUs and BlueField-4 DPUs running NVIDIA Sentry, which can quarantine agents that exceed their boundaries.

My take: when Nvidia's boss says software is becoming a major part of the business, that is a company showing you where the next fortune lives. Ballpark or not, I am delighted.

A $2,000 figure with no product, no date and no tier attached is a number, not a price. The five million license scenario is FourWeekMBA's hypothetical, so file the $50 billion under arithmetic.

Zola Kade

No specified bundle, no start date, no shopping list. Until Nvidia publishes it, budget against the $4,500 AI Enterprise list price and treat $2,000 as a talking point.
