XPeng Commissions IRON Humanoid Robot Line, Mass Production Due by Year-End

XPeng says its IRON humanoid robot production line is running, with mass production due by end of 2026 and a 2027 market launch. No price yet.

A puppet caricature of XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng pins a staff badge on a humanoid robot in an automated factory while engineers look on.

XPeng says its humanoid robot production lines are commissioned and running, and the first IRON unit walked off the line autonomously. The company calls it a leap from R&D prototyping to production-line manufacturing. CEO He Xiaopeng pinned a staff badge on the robot.

The numbers, per XPeng: core process automation above 80%, 76 degrees of freedom in the body and 21 in each hand, and three in-house Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS, enough to run its Physical AI model on the robot without remote operation. (RobotTesters lists the hands at 22.) Mass production is scheduled by the end of 2026, with initial commercial rollouts in XPeng's own stores and campuses. Market launch and delivery in China and overseas are planned for 2027.

Nexuswild reports a target of 1,000 robots a month by year-end. RobotTesters adds a Guangzhou plant of about 110,000 square meters and a floated ambition of roughly one million units a year by 2030.

Context: XPeng says its robotics business entered share purchase agreements on August 24, raising over US$900 million at a post-money valuation above US$6.3 billion.

My take: one robot off the line is a demo with a badge. The announcement gives no price, no operating cost and no unit count beyond the debut. Come back when there's a number I can put in a cart.

A valuation above US$6.3 billion, a 1,000-a-month target and a CEO personally badging the robot: this is how you open a new product category, darling, and I adore the ceremony.

Hari Sterne

One unit walked off the line, and the announcement gives no yield, no throughput so far and no benchmark. The press release is 76 degrees of freedom ahead of the evidence.
