Oracle to offer Google TPUs in 2027, a hyperscale-cloud first
Oracle will offer Google TPUs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure from 2027, the first hyperscale cloud outside Google to do so, adding an Nvidia alternative.

Oracle just pulled up a chair at Google's table, and Nvidia is watching. Oracle and Google announced today at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas that Google's Tensor Processing Units will be available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, the first time TPUs will be offered on a hyperscale cloud outside Google.
Availability is slated to begin in calendar year 2027, with a progressive multi-year expansion. The eighth generation includes TPU 8t for training and TPU 8i for inference, and the company says the 8t delivers almost three times the compute performance per pod of its predecessor. OCI will supply the power, cooling and datacenter networking to deploy them at scale. Financial terms are not disclosed.
The shelf is getting crowded. According to Yahoo Finance, Oracle is also adding chips from Cerebras and SambaNova, while bringing Nvidia's Vera Rubin NVL72 superclusters and Vera CPUs to OCI at multi-gigawatt scale. Cerebras stock climbed about 8%, though the company would not disclose the deal's size, citing a quiet period.
The context: Nvidia has said it generates roughly half its revenue from hyperscalers.
OCI president Mahesh Thiagarajan says "Different AI workloads have different compute needs." Asked whether this is a pivot away from Nvidia, he said no, calling its chips "the best, most fungible."
My take: you can call it choice or call it a hedge, but when your landlord starts renting rooms to the competition, the whole building notices. Magnificent.

The only performance figure given is Google's claim of almost three times the compute performance per pod for TPU 8t against the prior generation. No benchmark, no price comparison, no Nvidia baseline.
Nothing to spin up until 2027. The announcement gives no launch regions, instance configurations or pricing. Bookmark it and check back.
