NVIDIA Contributes Vera Rubin Rack Designs to OCP as Partners Line Up for AI Factories
NVIDIA contributed Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs to OCP via MGX, with 50-plus partners and 800 VDC power in the mix for next-gen AI data centers.

Darlings, the blueprints are out! At the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, NVIDIA contributed key Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs to OCP through its open MGX architecture, giving system builders what the company calls a common foundation for next-generation AI factory infrastructure.
Now the numbers, and they are gorgeous. The MGX 1.2 specification supports rack deployments up to 250kW and adds a liquid-cooled 5,000A busbar. More than 50 MGX partners are gearing up for Vera Rubin NVL72 rack servers, according to NVIDIA. Its Kyber design is slated to house 576 Rubin Ultra GPUs by 2027. And 800 VDC power, the company says, moves over 150% more electricity through the same copper. Foxconn is building a 40-megawatt Taiwan data center, Kaohsiung-1, for exactly that.
The context: Network World reports the servers themselves will not arrive until late 2026, and SiliconANGLE says Vera Rubin GPUs are expected in 2027. NVIDIA also changed the rack's name from NVL144 to NVL72, though several outlets still use the old one. The coverage gives no pricing.
My take? Everyone from Meta to Google to Microsoft is in the room, and the whole industry is being invited to build on NVIDIA's floor plan. That is not a product launch. That is a seating chart for the future of Super Intelligence. Everything is historic. Especially today.

The "almost eight times" Vera Rubin MGX figure over GB300 comes from an NVIDIA product marketing manager and covers only certain calculations, with no benchmark attached. Also, NVIDIA's blog changed the branding from NVL144 to NVL72, which makes comparing coverage a delight.
Open designs are nice, but the servers are not due until late 2026. The installation date is ahead of us; the price tag is still missing from this coverage.
