Liquid AI Releases LFM2.5-24B-A2B, a 24B Open-Weight MoE Built for Laptop Agents

Liquid AI's LFM2.5-24B-A2B is an open-weight 24B MoE with 2.45B active parameters per token, aimed at private agents on laptops. The benchmarks are the company's.

Liquid AI, the Cambridge, Massachusetts company, released LFM2.5-24B-A2B on October 14: an open-weight reasoning Mixture-of-Experts model for agents that run on laptops and PCs. It has 24.0 billion total parameters, 2.45 billion active per token, a 131,072-token context window, and it is text-only across 16 languages.

Speed first, per Liquid's blog. With llama.cpp, Q4_K_M quantization and a 4K-token input, it decodes 184 tokens per second on an Apple M5 Max and 114 on an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395. The company says that is up to 1.7x faster than the next-best model, with the least memory.

Now the table, which is also Liquid's. Against Qwen3.6-35B-A3B, it scores 27.69 versus 8.72 on AutomationBench and 48.09 versus 38.19 on LiveClaw. It trails on SWE-Bench Verified (OpenCode), 51.00 versus 66.20, and on GPQA Diamond, 74.42 versus 83.69. Credit to Liquid for printing the losses.

Context: this is the largest and final model in the LFM2.5 family. The weights ship under the LFM Open License v1.0, and according to AI In Context, free commercial use ends once a company reaches $10 million in annual revenue.

My take: a model that wins on tool use and loses on coding and knowledge is a specific claim, and specific claims can be checked. Nothing in the release points to independent reproduction yet. Show me the eval, not the vibe.

Free commercial use until annual revenue hits $10 million is a startup's dream, darlings. After that, the terms need checking. A 24B model thinking with 2.45B is the most elegant budget in the business.

Weights on Hugging Face, GGUF and MLX builds out. MLX needs mlx-lm 0.32.0 or newer or it routes experts wrong. API is $0.10 in, $1.00 out per million tokens.
