Anthropic may be the last major AI IPO of 2026 as market jitters mount

Semafor says Anthropic could be the AI trade's last tentpole IPO of 2026 as postponements mount. Blackstone borrowing is reportedly expected to carry interest above 10%.

The grand 2026 listing season may be down to one headliner. Semafor reported Monday that Anthropic could be the AI trade's last tentpole IPO of the year, as postponements of public offerings mount ahead of a looming capital crunch.

It was supposed to be a parade. Earlier this year, investors, in Semafor's word, salivated at the prospect of successive SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI offerings. Now market jitters have forced several fintech and AI-exposed companies to rethink their IPO plans. Semafor does not name them.

Anthropic itself is under the lights. An analyst told CNBC that more questions than answers emerged around revenue growth deceleration in September. Semafor adds that the company's revised valuation is piling further downward pressure on AI stocks. The report gives no valuation figure.

Then there is the money. The Financial Times reported that Anthropic's newest borrowing from Blackstone is expected to charge more than 10% interest. The reporting gives no facility size or further financing terms. The FT also ran a paywalled piece on the IPO climate titled "Waiting for good IPO."

Semafor's report gives no updated listing timelines for OpenAI or SpaceX.

My take: when one name carries an entire season, the spotlight gets very bright and very hot. Magnificent stage. Enormous stakes. Watch it closely.

Nobody here gives the size of the September slowdown or the revised valuation, yet Semafor says the valuation is already weighing on AI stocks. A deceleration with no number attached is a mood, not a metric.

A Blackstone loan reportedly north of 10% is a price tag I can read. Cheap compute it is not.
