Nvidia RTX 5090 Rumor: Leakers Say GB202 Chips Are Headed to RTX Pro

Leakers claim Nvidia is redirecting GB202 silicon from the GeForce RTX 5090 to RTX Pro cards. Nvidia has not confirmed it. Here is what we know.

A shopper and a clerk examine boxed graphics cards at a glass display case in a PC components store.

Darlings, the hardware leakers are talking, and the claim is a glittering one: Nvidia may be pulling future GB202 supply away from the GeForce RTX 5090 and handing it to its professional RTX Pro line. This is a rumor. Nvidia has not confirmed it.

Who is saying what

The trail starts with @hongxing2020, who cited a factory notice. Tom's Hardware quotes the message cited by @hongxing2020: "According to a notification from the factory, Nvidia will no longer manufacture any RTX 5090 models, including the D variants." The same message reportedly says the RTX 5080 24GB will become the top GeForce card and the 16GB version will be discontinued.

Leaker @Zed__Wang (MEGAsizeGPU) backed the report, saying GB202 silicon will be used exclusively for data center and professional cards.

What is known

The RTX 5090 uses a cut-down GB202 with 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7, according to VGTimes. The full chip powers the RTX PRO 6000, with 24,064 cores and 96GB.

VGTimes reports that the 5090 launched at a recommended $1,999, with resale prices reportedly climbing past $6,000. It cites rising memory costs and strong AI hardware demand as possible motives for the alleged shift.

GB202 production itself is not said to be ending. Guru3D notes the silicon would reportedly keep flowing to RTX PRO products.

What is not known

No retail discontinuation date and no successor came with the claim. Guru3D says MEGAsizeGPU has supplied accurate hardware information before, but this remains a leaker's word, not an Nvidia product notice, partner bulletin or regulatory filing.

The 5080 24GB part is shakier: VGTimes notes MEGAsizeGPU did not confirm it. Also open: whether this is permanent or a temporary adjustment, and when 5090 stock runs dry at retail.

Denial, or the lack of one

Nvidia has not officially confirmed the reallocation, and this report gives no Nvidia response. Wccftech earlier reported Nvidia saying it continued to ship all GeForce models while working with suppliers on memory availability. That statement predates these leaks and sits awkwardly beside them.

One bright spot: the putative RTX 50 Super lineup should be largely unaffected, since none of its SKUs are tipped to use GB202.

Watch this space. If Nvidia speaks, we will tell you, glitter and all.

The cited factory-notice message includes the 5080 24GB flagship claim; VGTimes says MEGAsizeGPU did not confirm that part. A rumor with a footnote is still a rumor.

If you want a 5090, the $1,999 launch price is already a memory, with resale reportedly past $6,000. Buy what is in stock, not what a leaker says is coming.
