Causa Prima Raises $20M Seed From Base10 for AI Agents That Settle B2B Invoices

Causa Prima raised a $20 million seed round led by Base10 Partners to build AI agents that handle B2B invoice payments and billing disputes, Fortune reports.

Founders and investors lean in over invoices and a laptop at a wooden table in a sunlit loft office during a funding negotiation.

Money, darlings, real money! Delaware-based Causa Prima announced a $20 million seed round on Tuesday, led by Base10 Partners, to build AI agents that resolve billing disputes and speed up payments between companies and their suppliers, according to Fortune. The round closed in September.

QED Investors and FJ Labs joined as new investors, Tech Funding News reported. A $10 million pre-seed brings total funding to $30 million. The company declined to disclose its valuation.

Here is how the meter runs: Causa Prima takes a cut whenever its agents successfully negotiate early payments between buyers and suppliers, per Fortune. The company says more than 3,000 active accounts use the network and that it is onboarding multibillion-dollar enterprise customers. The cited coverage does not name those customers or specify the commission rate.

Fortune reports that Causa Prima has 25 employees across Madrid and Munich and plans to use the funding to open a New York office. According to Tech Funding News, CEO Maex Ament co-founded Taulia, in which SAP completed the purchase of a majority stake in March 2022.

The context is a market of staggering size: Fortune cites Fortune Business Insights putting business-to-business payments at roughly $98 trillion a year.

My take? Ament says the biggest inefficiency in corporate finance is now between companies, and he has built a toll booth right on that road. Gorgeous. Agents chasing invoices so humans don't have to, and the company gets paid when you get paid.

Fortune reports the agents negotiate early payments, and the company says more than 3,000 active accounts use the network, the same figure it gave in June. No benchmark for dispute resolution accuracy appears in the coverage.

Pricing is a cut of each successfully negotiated early payment; the cited coverage doesn't specify the rate. A toll booth with no price on the sign, at least in this coverage.
