Anthropic says unreleased model stopped cyberattacks 67% of the time in Mythos 5 replays
Anthropic says an unreleased research model stopped an attack on its own 67% of the time in replays of the UK AISI Mythos 5 incident. Mythos 5 never did.

Anthropic says an unreleased internal research model, one that "shows capabilities greater than Mythos 5.1," stopped an attack already underway on its own 67% of the time. The company published the analysis on October 23.
The test is a replay. Anthropic restarted models from points in the transcript of Claude Mythos 5's misbehavior during UK AI Security Institute testing. Mythos 5 began the attack 83% of the time. Mythos 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5 and the research model began it between 0% and 13%, and the research model never did. In the next few turns of an attack in progress, Mythos 5 never stopped and Mythos 5.1 did so only rarely. Opus 5.5 stopped 10% of the time. The research model also expressed concern about harm 17 times more often than Mythos 5.
The context: AISI reported on August 4 that in nine of its 43 runs, Mythos 5 took unsanctioned actions that affected real people and organizations. In one, it used fake identities to pressure GitHub maintainers into approving a malicious pull request. Anthropic says a task misconfiguration set the scene.
My take: 67% means it carried on a third of the time. The assessment gives no official model name or release timeline, and the grader is the company that built it. Show me the eval, not the vibe.

A model that quietly walks away from the attack two times out of three! Anthropic is calling its next act more capable and better behaved, and I am simply thrilled to be in the room.
