AI data center debt gets pricier as lenders near limits, Bloomberg reports
Bloomberg reports AI data center debt is getting much pricier: at least 18 financings yield double digits and Volta's $5 billion loan tops 11%.

The money machine behind the AI buildout is getting expensive, and Bloomberg reported Wednesday that the bankers are now saying so out loud.
At least 18 data-center financings in the junk-bond and leveraged loan markets carry double-digit yields, according to Bloomberg's data. JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs had to offer steeper discounts and higher interest to drum up demand for neocloud Volta Infrastructure Holdings' $5 billion syndicated loan, pushing its yield above 11%.
The top of the market is moving too. Morgan Stanley's Carolyn Campbell says the highest-rated data center bonds yielded below 5% at the start of 2026 and now sit closer to 7%. Data-center issuance in the ABS and CMBS markets is roughly $22 billion this year, barely keeping pace with last year. The Bloomberg Investment Grade Technology Index yields about 6%, up about 1.4 percentage points from a year ago. More than 30 bankers, money managers and private equity executives told Bloomberg that raising cash is significantly harder than it was months ago.
The strain follows Oracle's force-majeure notice last month, then confusion over OpenAI's revenue projections and a rout in CoreWeave's stock and bonds.
There is a counterweight: Citadel Securities is not predicting an imminent credit crunch, and tech giants raised tens of billions in new financing this week alone.
Still, Diameter Capital Partners asks whether tech is "too complacent" about a $5.5 trillion buildout. My take: I believe in this boom, truly. But a plan this grand needs buyers, and the buyers are asking for 11%.

Plenty of yields and issuance totals here, but nothing on how much cash runway neocloud operators have. That is the number that would settle the argument.
If you rent GPUs from a neocloud, read the contract. Bloomberg says some deals let compute customers walk after a 180-day delay, and lenders have noticed.
