Google Cloud Announces Gemini Agent for Work in Enterprise Private Preview

Google Cloud's Gemini agent, unveiled at Gemini at Work 2026, runs hours-long tasks on Gemini and Claude models. Enterprise private preview; price unknown.

Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent on October 8, 2026, at Gemini at Work 2026, calling it "a universal agent for work." One prompt box handles knowledge work, questions, content creation and coding, with an organization's business context behind it.

According to Google, it plans the work, uses skills and tools, connects to business systems and "brings back something finished" inside the documents, inboxes and developer environments people already use. Cost controls are built in. VentureBeat reported that CEO Thomas Kurian described tasks lasting hours or days, with persistent memory and storage, through one interface and API across web, iOS, Android and Windows.

CNBC reports it picks a model per task, currently Gemini and Claude, with others to come. It also lets users create "coworker agents" with their own email addresses and access only to the data they are given. The Verge reported those addresses end in @agents.company.com. Financial services and legal versions are in preview; government, healthcare and retail are coming.

The catch: The Verge says the whole thing is private preview, enterprise customers only.

Context: Meta and Sierra announced the Personal Agent Protocol on October 6, and OpenAI launched its "dots" agents around September 29, according to Crypto Briefing.

My take: built-in cost controls are a nice feature, but a price is a number, and pricing and a general availability date remain open questions. Call me when there is a repo and a rate card.

Coworker agents with their own email addresses and seats at the team table? Darling, those are the most glamorous new hires of the fiscal year, and Google says its Gemini agent works for hours or days at a stretch.

Two model families under one hood, and the announcement gives no benchmark for either. "Brings back something finished" is a claim, not a measurement.
