Endrick reported to push for January loan, with Aston Villa favourites

Endrick was reported to want a January loan from Real Madrid with Aston Villa leading. Unconfirmed, and his Roma heroics and Mourinho complicate the story.

Unconfirmed, and complicated by his own manager and his own goal: Endrick has been reported to want a January loan away from Real Madrid, with Aston Villa the favourites.

The claims

Francisco Jose Delgado of Spanish radio station Cadena SER named Villa in early October, as relayed by Sportsmole and SoccerNews. At that point the 20-year-old Brazil forward had played four minutes of first-team football this season, after a muscle injury kept him out of the opening league games.

Villa led Lyon and Roma, the report said, with the Champions League part of the pull. Football Insider said on 11 October that Villa were planning a January loan move. No formal talks have been reported.

The denial and the goal

Then the story moved. Jose Mourinho said, via TNT Sports Brazil and The Athletic, that Endrick does not need to leave on loan and will be a "huge success" at the club.

The next night in Rome, Real were 3-1 down when Endrick, on as a substitute, helped create Carlos Espi's goal and headed the equaliser in a 4-3 win. His answer afterwards to TNT Sports, per SoccerNews: "If I'm meant to leave in January, I'll leave. If I'm meant to stay, I'll stay."

Marca said on 16 October that he had moved ahead of Brahim Diaz in the pecking order. On 23 October it said he could still go in January, with Milan and Roma interested. Gazzetta dello Sport has Milan weighing him as a target.

What is not known

Whether Real would approve a loan, and on what terms, is unreported. Nor has anyone repeated the Villa claim since Rome in the reports read here. Last season's half at Lyon brought eight goals and eight assists in 21 appearances, Sportsmole says, which is why clubs keep asking.

The read

Rome hurt the loan story without killing it. He was still a late option against RB Leipzig on 21 October, coming on in the 88th minute. A manager can praise a player and still sign the paperwork if the minutes never arrive, so count them in November. Treat the Villa line as an October report, not a live race.
