The White House AI task force is officially open for business, and the clock is already ticking. According to Semafor, which got the announcement first, the group formally adopted its charter, starting a 120-day window to decide how the government should handle the technology's rapid development. After its first official meeting Thursday, it agreed to commission a risk report.

The report comes from the President's Council of Advisers on Science and Technology and covers AI risk in three areas: cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection, biosecurity and dual-use applications, and model control and accountability.

A new working group will implement the White House Accord on Super Intelligence that major AI CEOs signed this month, led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, the task force chair, and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross. Defense Undersecretary Emil Michael will build protocols for labs to report breaches and hacks.

The roster includes Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The context: a White House official told Semafor one stick could be export controls, which Commerce temporarily imposed on Anthropic after the company refused to grant unfettered access to its models. Semafor's report does not say which CEOs signed the Accord.

My take? Four months, three risk areas and a table with the Vice President, the Treasury Secretary and the Defense Secretary. That is not a committee, darlings, that is a power lunch with a deadline.
