> Synopsys is exploring partnerships with Chinese AI labs to build an AI version of its chip design tools, while promising to follow U.S. export rules.

Synopsys wants to help Chinese companies develop chips faster with an AI version of its design tools, and it is looking for local LLM builders to help make it. Nikkei Asia reports the company is exploring partnerships with AI labs in China, and says it will work within Washington's tightening controls on AI and semiconductor exports.

In an interview, Chief Product Management Officer Ravi Subramanian said chip design cycles are accelerating, with a full design flow needing to fit under one year, according to seccw.com. Longbridge, which spells his surname Subramanyam, quotes him: "We have a set of U.S. government regulations that we must comply with, and we will adhere to them regardless of our actions when expanding our business." He added: "We believe China has its own growth drivers."

The numbers: at its September 30 investor day, Synopsys projected fiscal 2027 revenue of $11.15 billion, up 15%. It also announced a multi-year OpenAI deal to build GPT-Synopsys. The company says its AI platforms, Autopilot and AgentEngineer, span more than 50 collaboration projects, with up to 50x faster verification closure and 30% better project productivity.

What is missing: no lab is named, and the reporting describes no signed deal. Crypto Briefing says the claim surfaced in an X post and that Synopsys has made no public announcement. Context: in May 2025 Synopsys withdrew its outlook citing export controls, and in September 2025 its shares fell after it warned of slowing China revenue.

My take: "exploring" is carrying this whole story. The compliance plan is the part I would want to read. This reporting doesn't spell it out.
