> Runware is building a factory to mass-produce prefabricated AI data centers, with 30 MW a day targeted by 2028 and a second site due early next year.

Runware wants to build AI data centers the way Detroit builds cars, and it is putting a factory behind the idea. TechCrunch reported that the company is building a factory to turn out prefabricated AI data centers on an assembly line.

The numbers are glorious. According to BEAMSTART, Runware already operates one factory in Romania and expects a second early next year. The production goal is 30 megawatts of capacity daily by 2028. Each pod is designed to be installed and set up on site in as little as 48 hours, and build time per pod is targeted to fall from three weeks to one day as volume rises.

Demand, the company says, is there. BEAMSTART reports commitments representing over 20 megawatts from interested customers. Whalesbook puts it at $1 billion in committed interest, and says Runware raised a $50 million Series A and recruited automotive-sector leaders. The pods use closed-loop liquid cooling with no water connection, per BEAMSTART.

Now the sobering line: Whalesbook calls execution the real challenge, citing supply chain issues and cost overruns. TechCrunch says the real test is whether Runware can deliver at that scale. BEAMSTART reports that the next 12 months will focus on launching the new factory and filling initial orders.

My take: an assembly line for compute is a magnificent idea, and 30 megawatts a day is a magnificent number. One factory in Romania is the number that exists today.
