> Powerlattice raised $86 million, per an SEC filing, for a chiplet it says can cut AI processor energy use by more than half. The investors are unnamed.

Money is chasing AI's power problem. Powerlattice, a startup based in Vancouver, Washington, has raised $86 million, according to an SEC filing on Friday, October 30, as reported by GeekWire.

The filing shows the company is seeking $111 million in total, with 18 investors participating so far. It does not name the investors or the round, and Powerlattice declined to comment.

The $86 million is nearly triple the $31 million the company had raised when it emerged from stealth in November 2025 with a $25 million Series A led by Playground Global and Celesta Capital.

The product is what Powerlattice calls a power delivery chiplet, a small component that sits inside the processor package. Conventional setups route current over long paths to the processor, wasting energy along the way. The company says shortening that path can cut energy use by more than half and boost performance.

The timing is the story. AI chips are drawing so much electricity and throwing off so much heat that data center operators are running into limits on available power and cooling. Board member Pat Gelsinger, the former Intel CEO and a general partner at Playground, said when the Series A was announced: "AI is not constrained by capital, it’s constrained by power."

My take: a former Intel chief on the board, new funding nearly triple its previous fundraising total, and a target of $111 million. That is a serious room for a serious problem. We still don't know who the investors are or when chiplets ship, but the ambition is gorgeous.
