> Palantir's Louis Mosley says neither the company nor the U.S. government can remotely shut off NATO's Maven system, as Starlink worries Europe.

Palantir has a message for Europe: relax. Louis Mosley, the company's executive vice president for the UK and Europe, said in an interview in Brussels on Wednesday that neither Palantir nor the U.S. government can remotely shut down the Maven Smart System. "There are no kill switches. There's no ability for Palantir or the US government to reach in and switch it off."

He added that customers who buy the software "are in full operational control of that software," and that Palantir staff involvement is "entirely at the discretion of the customer."

The timing is the whole drama. Ukraine reported last week that its Starshield service, which runs on SpaceX's Starlink constellation, was restricted so terminals stopped working on fast-moving platforms, hampering interceptor drones. Mosley called the Starlink news "extremely concerning." Who gave the order is disputed: Defense News cited two US officials and a Western official pointing to the White House, a senior US official says the president never requested it, and the Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk ordered it personally.

Maven is no side project. NATO bought it for SHAPE in March 2025 and declared it fully technically capable on June 22, 2026. Neither NATO nor Palantir has disclosed the contract value. Germany and France have not adopted it for their own forces, and France's domestic intelligence agency is moving to ChapsVision.

My take: a denial of a kill switch is a magnificent sentence. But in this business, trust is the product, and Europe is shopping very carefully.
