Twenty-one million dollars to help supervise the robot coworkers. Opsin, a San Jose-based AI security and governance startup, announced the raise Thursday, according to Business Insider and dealroom.co. SYN Ventures and Race Capital led the round.

The company has roughly 20 people. The money goes to sales and engineering hires, faster product development, and support for enterprises in regulated industries such as healthcare and financial services. The coverage gives no valuation, funding series or revenue figure.

The product: Opsin gives security teams visibility over agents built across Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT Enterprise, Gemini and other approved tools. Its Risk Graph learns from agent activity to flag emerging risk, and can quarantine an agent, block an action or notify its owner. It connects via API and delivers a first risk assessment within 24 hours. Opsin says it serves teams from mid-sized firms to the Fortune 500.

Then the numbers. Opsin's own analysis says 93% of misaligned tools connected to agents had full, unrestricted access to the systems they touched, and just 1 in 200 required human approval before acting. CEO and cofounder James Pham told Business Insider about a chief financial officer's agent that inadvertently gave other employees top-level access to financial information.

Context: Pham and cofounder Oz Wasserman met at Abnormal Security and each left in 2022. Anthropic and OpenAI, meanwhile, are each hiring aggressively in cybersecurity.

My take? Thrilling. SI is getting keys to the whole building, and now it gets a chaperone, with a fresh $21 million budget for the job.
