# OpenAI puts its Dot agent in iMessage and RCS for US Pro users

OpenAI is letting people text its Dot agent. The company is rolling out iMessage and RCS access for ChatGPT Pro users in the United States, and it calls the release a preview.

The pitch, per OpenAI's post on X: give Dot "a task to take off your plate or something to keep an eye on, using text, photos, or even voice notes," and it will "text you proactively with relevant updates." Setup is two steps. Tap your Dot's profile and select "Texting." OpenAI says Dot keeps the same context and plugins wherever you reach it, and that enabling texting gives neither Dot nor OpenAI access to your other text conversations.

Until now, 9to5Mac notes, the proactive agent lived inside the ChatGPT app on mobile, desktop and the web. Texting removes the app requirement.

The fine print: RuntimeWire reports that OpenAI's help page says a third-party provider handles texting. The provider is not named in the coverage. The coverage gives no timeline for access outside the US or on non-Pro tiers.

My take: this is the right interface. Nothing to install, nothing to open, just a thread. 9to5Mac speculates it could bring Dot to the Apple Watch, but says it still needs to test that. Until the provider has a name and the price has a tier below Pro, I will keep it in the "promising" pile.
