> Microsoft and Nvidia unveil RTX Spark Windows PCs built to run AI agents and models locally. Surface Ultra starts at $2,599; laptops become available October 16.

Nvidia and Microsoft used a San Francisco event on Wednesday to launch a Windows PC category built to run agents and models locally. The chip is RTX Spark: a Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores and an up to 20-core Grace CPU, linked at 600 GB/s. Nvidia lists one petaflop of FP4 compute and up to 128GB of unified memory, plus the full CUDA stack.

Microsoft's Surface Ultra, which Nvidia calls Surface Laptop Ultra, starts at $2,599. Laptop preorders opened October 7, with availability beginning October 16. Compact desktops arrive in November. Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Gigabyte are also building systems. Their prices are not given.

Nvidia says RTX Spark can run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next, a 125B model, unmetered and without sending data to the cloud. It also claims the model matches the intelligence of many cloud models. The announcement gives no benchmark for that.

Also on the list: Nvidia previewed DGX Station for Windows (748GB of memory, up to 20 petaFLOPS FP4), with no price or date. Microsoft made its agent sandbox, MXC, generally available. Copilot gets local-model support, and Meta's Muse agent is coming to Windows.

Context: Copilot+ PCs got off to a rocky start after Recall was delayed. Microsoft's pitch now is that developers' appetite exceeds their companies' AI budgets.

My take: unmetered inference is the real feature. A flat $2,599 beats a per-token meter if the model holds up.
