Unconfirmed, and long-running: Harry Kane is reported to have agreed a new Bayern Munich contract to the summer of 2029, and the paperwork is still being finished.

## The claims

On 16 October Sky Sports reported that the England captain had agreed a deal in principle, with Bayern finalising the contract. It would extend a deal that, according to beIN Sports, expires in 2027.

The story is older than that. On 2 August beIN, citing Bild's Christian Falk, said the key terms were already agreed and that Kane's priority was winning trophies with Bayern, not chasing a Premier League scoring record. A 2023 reliability guide from The Free Transfer put Falk in its second tier. That report said the deal could be official within days. It is now the end of October.

## The wobble

Around the same time as Sky's report, BBC Sport's gossip column carried Sky Sports Germany on Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl: talks are going well, but there has been no formal commitment yet. That is two different stages, agreed in principle on one side and nothing formal on the other.

We found no Bayern announcement as of Saturday.

## Why it matters now

Kane won the Ballon d'Or in London on 26 October, ahead of Kylian Mbappe in second and Lamine Yamal in third. He scored 73 goals for club and country last season. His current deal expires next summer, and a player just named the world's best is not one Bayern will want to leave hanging.

There is also a Tottenham angle. Goal reports that Spurs will get no extra money from the Ballon d'Or win, because the 2023 transfer to Bayern did not include a clause for it. That is the BBC's gossip column relaying Goal, so it is not confirmed by either club.

## What is not known

The salary and the date of any announcement are unconfirmed, and so is the 2029 end date until Bayern say it. The Premier League return talk that bubbled in the summer is, on Falk's account, highly unlikely.

## The read

Everything points to Kane staying put. I would call the substance of this one close to done, but a deal first called nearly finished in August has now gone almost three months without a signature anyone has announced. Until Bayern publish it, it stays a report.
