> Google's Gemini 4 Argon hit 97.5% on ARC-AGI-3 with a provider adapter harness, but only 49.8% in the standard one, according to ARC Prize results.

Google DeepMind's Gemini 4 Argon scored 97.5 percent on ARC-AGI-3. It also scored 49.8 percent on ARC-AGI-3. Both numbers are real. They come from different harness configurations, and that distinction belongs in the headline.

ARC Prize published the results on October 13. In the Provider Adapter Harness, a setup that uses vendor-specific features like retained reasoning and context compaction, Argon hit 97.5 percent at low effort for about $4,770, according to ArtificialWatch. In the Standard Harness, which only allows simple notes between rounds, it fell to 49.8 percent at low effort (about $5,820) and 46.3 percent at medium. API problems stopped it from finishing all 55 games, and at the highest level it completed only 19, so ARC Prize published no score.

On the adapter table, only GPT-6 Astra is higher, at 99.9 percent. On the standard table, Argon's 49.8 percent ranks fifth, behind GPT-6 Astra at max (62.7 percent, about $26,100) and others.

This fight is not new. In July, OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol went from 7.8 percent to 38.3 percent with OpenAI's own Responses API, and ARC Prize co-founder Francois Chollet then allowed general, publicly available API settings, according to The Decoder.

My take: a score without its harness is a footnote with the note torn off. The reporting does not say what makes the adapter roughly double the result, and that is the number I would want explained before anyone says "97.5."
