Police in Santa Cruz are now looking at the medical response, not only the collision, after the death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel.

The 30-year-old died at 8am on Tuesday, CD Tenerife announced, after Monday's 2-2 draw with FC Andorra. Goalkeeper Jesús Owono was red-carded for kneeing him in the chest near the halfway line late in stoppage time. A National Police spokesperson said the homicide unit is investigating because the death was not the result of natural causes, and will seek to determine whether an involuntary manslaughter could have been committed.

According to the Daily Mail, investigators are asking whether De Miguel was given oxygen and whether a defibrillator was used from the outset. El Día reported that detectives are examining whether the pitchside team acted with due diligence during more than six minutes on the field before he was placed on a spinal board, and how he was carried to the ambulance. Medical staff are expected to be questioned. Sources told local press of "certain discrepancies within the reports, or potential inaccuracies when compared to other evidence in the case".

On Owono, the Mirror reports that chief prosecutor José Luis Sánchez-Jáuregui calls criminal proceedings against him "very unlikely".

These are questions, not findings. Who answers them, and when the police report reaches the court, is not stated. Until it does, the responsible word is "unresolved".
