> Cerebras details how it splits a roughly 3 trillion parameter model across 59 wafers, but the blog post itself calls its Kimi K3 example illustrative.

Cerebras is reportedly claiming it has deployed AI models with one trillion parameters. The claim arrives without a cited source or supporting detail. A Cerebras blog post explains the architecture; Hacker News listed it as "Cerebras Deploys Trillion-Parameter AI Models" (5 points, 0 comments).

Cerebras says a single WSE-3T wafer holds 44 GB of on-chip memory, while trillion-parameter models need terabytes for weights alone. So it splits the model across wafers, targeting 1000-2000+ tokens per second.

The worked example is Kimi K3, an open source model of about 3 trillion parameters with 93 layers. The example assumes 256k-token average requests, 4-bit weights and an 8-bit KV cache. Each layer needs roughly 16 GB; allowing extra cache space for dense layers gives one dense layer or two linear-attention layers per wafer, for 59 wafers total. Only activations move between them, at about 2 microseconds per hop.

Cerebras calls Kimi K3 "an illustrative example." The post does not say who runs it, or whether anyone does. The text also omits final values for total parameter payload, cache size and maximum concurrent requests.

My take: this is a good explanation of how you could serve a model this size. It is not a deployment announcement. Cerebras says throughput per megawatt at a fixed speed is the metric that matters, and the post gives no such number.
