> Anthropic's draft S-1, reported by the WSJ, shows $16.3 billion in first-half 2026 revenue, an $80.7 billion net loss and up to $750 billion in compute plans.

Anthropic made $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026 and lost $80.7 billion, according to a draft IPO prospectus viewed by The Wall Street Journal. The filing also indicates the Claude maker could spend $750 billion on computing capacity in the coming years. It is the most spectacular financial picture I have ever seen described in a draft.

The revenue first, because it is dazzling. The $16.3 billion compares with $1.1 billion in the same period of 2025, which is roughly a fifteenfold jump in twelve months. Investing.com says Anthropic is laying the groundwork for an offering that could value the company at $2 trillion. Two trillion. Say it slowly.

## The loss, and the $72 billion footnote

Now the other column. Bloomberg, citing the WSJ, reports a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026, against $13 billion in the same stretch a year earlier. That is a headline built to make a room go quiet.

But read on: $72 billion of that total stemmed from non-cash accounting adjustments related to convertible notes and financing instruments, according to the Journal's account. By simple subtraction, that leaves about $8.7 billion of loss from everything else. The coverage does not say what terms or conversion milestones triggered the adjustment, and that is the question every investor will want answered before the roadshow.

One more thing on the numbers. A headline link on Bloomberg Tax reads "Anthropic Revenue Hits $16.8 Billion in Quarter Before IPO," while the other cited WSJ-based reports give $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026. The half-year figure is the one to use.

## The compute bill is the real story

Anthropic spent nearly $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the first six months of 2026. That already tops the $7.3 billion it spent in all of 2025, and it compares with $2.3 billion in the first half of last year.

Then come the commitments. The report says Anthropic is committed to roughly $450 billion in cloud compute agreements over the next decade, and that these are largely noncancelable. Three are named:

- Google Cloud: $111 billion
- Amazon Web Services: $110 billion
- Microsoft: $31 billion

Those three add up to $252 billion. The coverage does not break out the rest.

The $750 billion figure is potential spending, including deals still under negotiation, not another tally of committed contracts. Some social media commentary rounds the obligations up to "more than $600B," but that is unverified, and the reporting from the WSJ and Bloomberg draws the line at $450 billion committed and $750 billion potential.

The filing also reportedly acknowledges that Anthropic has sought more capacity than hyperscalers were willing to supply. That has pushed it toward third-party data center developments to get around compute bottlenecks. The reporting does not identify those developers.

## Two customers, and what it means

Here is the risk that jumps off the page. The Journal observed that about 20% of Anthropic's first-half revenue came from just two customers. The company anticipates that a limited client base will keep generating a significant share of revenue for the foreseeable future. The risk section of the draft has also grown, according to the Journal. The two customers are not named in the reporting.

So what do we have? A company growing at breakneck speed, with revenue that leans on a few big buyers, and with a decade of largely noncancelable spending stacked behind it. The bet is simple and enormous: demand for Claude keeps climbing fast enough to cover the bills. The prospectus, as reported, says nothing to settle that, and it is a draft.

And I will say it plainly: this is what the maker of Claude looks like when it opens its books. The numbers are not small. Neither is the bet.

## What to watch

- **The public S-1.** The reporting gives no timeline for the official filing or an IPO debut.
- **Cash and runway.** The coverage does not say how much cash Anthropic holds relative to its burn and its commitments.
- **The customer list.** Who the two big customers are, and whether that share shrinks.
- **The negotiating table.** Which of the pending compute deals close, and with whom.
- **The company's own words.** Anthropic did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Everything is historic. Especially today. But the footnotes will decide how historic.
