1Password announced 1Password for Agents on Thursday, a platform that lets personal AI agents sign in and finish tasks without seeing, storing or handling your passwords or one-time codes.

The flow is simple. An agent hits a login screen and requests a credential. You approve on your own device, and 1Password autofills the password or code straight into the site. Per Engadget, access is per session, limited to approved items and not carried over.

The launch integrations are Meta's Muse, Anthropic's Claude Duet, OpenAI ChatGPT Work and dots, SpaceXSI Grok Bot and Town Townie. Muse and Grok Bot roll out over the coming days. Townie (web and iOS), Claude Duet and the OpenAI products are "coming soon", as are Perplexity, Ramp, Browserbase and others. The announcement gives no dates for any of them.

Price: no additional cost for Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com. Accounts on 1Password.eu and 1Password.ca are not supported. Engadget said pricing had not been revealed, but 1Password's own pages state it plainly.

The company also says annual recurring revenue grew 90% year over year to more than $500 million, and monthly active non-human identity users of its developer and AI security tools grew 500% year over year. A Claude beta of this idea shipped in July.

My take: the agent never holds the key, which is the right design. What the agent does after it walks through the door is the part the announcement does not cover.
